Prompt Engineering: A Key for the Future Workforce!
As the global economy shifts to a knowledge-based one, prompt engineering is emerging as a critical skill all professionals must learn. Just as digital literacy has become a necessity in today's workforce, prompt engineering enables generative AI to solve complex problems, customize model capabilities, and generate multiple solutions. Companies are beginning to offer high salaries to sophisticated prompt engineers and online courses to help people learn this new skill. With the potential of half of the world's jobs involving prompt engineering in the next 10 years, it is clear that this unique methodology is essential for the future of work.
World Leaders Urged to Take Action on AI Misuse
New laws must be put into place to protect against the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI), warns a new report released last week. AI technology has grown rapidly, allowing for powerful and open-source tools that can be used for malicious intent. The report discusses the strategy needed to combat this development, such as introducing laws, policies, and measures that focus not only on technical protection but also on the ethical implications of AI. It also calls on world leaders to be more accountable for their use of AI and to ensure its use aligns with the values of society.
Discover the Benefits of AI to Transform Banking & Financial Services
Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are having a major impact on the banking and financial services industry, including customer service, analytics, fraud detection, and more. For bank leaders, it is essential to understand how AI can be used to its fullest potential to improve operational efficiency and customer experience. AI can help to automate manual tasks, reduce customer effort and provide more predictive insights. Bank leaders should keep up with the latest AI developments and ensure that their organization is leveraging the potential it provides.
Catching Up with Giants: META's Open-Source AI Journey
Currently, the tech industry is captivated by the debate surrounding open-source artificial intelligence (AI), raising crucial questions about the future of AI development. Should AI technologies be freely accessible for collaboration and innovation, or should they be tightly controlled by the respective companies to mitigate risks and safeguard against misuse? Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has emerged as a prominent player in this discourse, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg advocating for open-source AI, representing a departure from Meta's previous stance.

The controversy surrounding open-source AI:
Numerous tech companies are actively engaged in the discussion about open-source AI. Google, for instance, advocates in favor of open-source AI projects, collaborating and sharing cutting-edge tools like TensorFlow with the wider community, while OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, emphasizes a balanced approach that addresses critical safety and ethical concerns alongside openness.
Supporters of open-source AI argue that it fosters collaboration, accelerates innovation, and facilitates the collective improvement of AI systems. By making AI technology accessible to a broader community of developers, they believe in exchanging ideas, increasing transparency, and developing more robust and reliable AI systems. However, skeptics express concerns about potential risks, focusing primarily on security, privacy, and the potential for misuse. They worry that unrestricted access to powerful AI models could enable malicious activities such as deepfake generation or AI-driven propaganda/misinformation. Additionally, there are concerns about the potential perpetuation of biases and discrimination if AI models are not closely monitored and regulated.
Meta's take on open-source AI:
Despite its historic stance on openness, Meta recently took a significant step by planning to make its AI products open-source. The decision to open-source AI marks a strategic shift in Meta's approach, which is potentially fueled by the competitive landscape in the AI industry. Meta has recognized the need to catch up with industry leaders like Google and position itself as a serious competitor in the AI landscape.
Hence, by adopting an open-source approach, Meta probably aims to gain a competitive edge and tap into the vast potential of collaboration and collective expertise. This strategic move allows Meta to leverage the knowledge and skills of developers and researchers worldwide, fostering a collaborative ecosystem that accelerates advancements of their generative AIs.
Meta's AI products portfolio:
Meta emphasized the integration of AI across its extensive range of products and services. In a blog post announcing Meta's rebranding, Mark Zuckerberg shared a compelling vision of constructing a "Metaverse"—a virtual realm where AI plays a foundational role in enabling seamless user interaction and collaboration across all Meta platforms. As a result, Meta has made notable advancements in AI development, particularly in areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, and speech recognition.
Have a look at Meta developments in the field of AI here:
Meta's large language model LLAMA:
One remarkable development by Meta is the creation of the Large Language Model (LLAMA), an advanced AI model designed to generate text that closely resembles human language and assists with various language-based tasks. LLAMA has garnered attention within the AI community for its language generation capabilities, positioning it as a notable competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT. By making LLAMA open-source, Meta enables developers, researchers, and enterprises to harness its power and seamlessly integrate it into their applications. This deliberate act provides Meta with an opportunity to tap into a vast pool of collective expertise, accelerating the evolution of LLAMA's generative AI.
Find out more about Mark Zuckerberg's stance on open-source and how their product LLAMA actually became open-source in the following interview:
VoiceBox:
Meta has recently made significant strides in the realm of AI speech technology, presenting an impressive achievement that could have far-reaching implications. The company's latest innovation aims to enhance global communication and promote inclusivity through advanced multilingual speech synthesis.
VoiceBox, the latest generative AI model developed by Meta, has garnered significant attention due to its groundbreaking advancements in the field of speech synthesis. This innovative technology aims to foster inclusivity on a global scale by enabling multilingual communication through its extensive library of over 4,000 spoken languages.
What sets VoiceBox apart is its ability to produce highly realistic and natural-sounding speech, achieved through extensive training on diverse linguistic data. The model successfully captures the nuances of human conversation, incorporating tonal variations and fluid pacing.
Further, another key strength of VoiceBox lies in its adaptability and personalization capabilities. It can be fine-tuned to specific contexts, allowing for precise adjustments of speech characteristics to suit a variety of scenarios.
Powering VoiceBox is a cutting-edge technology known as neural waveform synthesis. This technique enables the model to generate audio waveforms directly from text inputs, eliminating the need for pre-recorded speech samples. As a result, the process becomes more streamlined and efficient while maintaining a high level of naturalness and human-like speech.
Meta envisions VoiceBox to transcend the realm of virtual assistants and chatbots, with the potential to revolutionize various applications. For instance, it can be used for voice-overs in media content, enhancing the quality of audiobooks, and providing accessibility solutions for individuals with speech impairments. Developers and creators can harness the power of VoiceBox to deliver immersive and engaging experiences, thereby reshaping the landscape of human-computer interaction.
Concluding remarks:
Meta's decision to open-source its AI technology has the potential to be a significant development in the AI landscape. By embracing transparency and collaboration, Meta may influence other tech giants, policymakers, and researchers in shaping AI regulations and cultivating an inclusive, transparent, and ethically sound regulated AI ecosystem.

Try it out: Eightify
Eightify is a still very young Chrome extension that aims to streamline the consumption of YouTube videos. Using AI, the tool generates concise summaries by extracting key points and highlights from the content. The extension's purpose is to save users time by providing them with the most relevant information without requiring them to watch the entire video.
Although the app worked well for some videos, not every YouTube video could be summarized. We encountered problems with videos in languages other than English and when subtitles were only partially available. This was also confirmed by Eightify.
"Unfortunately, subtitles are not available for 12% of videos. We are currently unable to provide summaries for them. Please try another video instead.”
Nevertheless, it is an interesting app and we will keep an eye on its development.
